Training for exam officers

Exams officer online course

In January 2025, we launched our new 12-week, online modular course for exams officers who have less than one year’s experience in their role (approximately 1–2 hours of study a week).

This new course replaced the ‘Getting to know the Cambridge Exams Cycle’ course and the ‘Welcome to being a Cambridge exams officer’ webinar.

We will be opening bookings for new cohorts of exams officers in May 2025. Courses will run from July – October 2025 and you will need to be a new exams officer with less than one year’s experience.

All our free exams officer webinars are available as usual. You can sign up to them on the Professional development calendar or see details below.

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint

Changes to Cambridge Checkpoint

We are making important changes to our Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint test series from 2026:

  • Providing a new test series in early March 2026.
  • Moving the May test series to late May.
  • Moving to a one-week timetable for each test series, with tests taken on specific dates set by us. You will be able to choose the time of the test on the test day.

We are making these changes based on customer feedback – to improve the testing experience and provide greater security and convenience for our centres. There are no changes to Cambridge Checkpoint tests in 2025 or Cambridge Global Perspectives™ Checkpoint. For more details, see our website. If you have any queries, contact us via this webpage.

The provisional timetable for the March 2026 Cambridge Primary and Lower Checkpoint series is available on Direct. Send us your feedback by 28 May 2025. You can do this by sending an email with the subject line ‘March 2026 Checkpoint timetable feedback’ to info@cambridgeinternational.org

Phase 2: Entries

Making entries

The final entry deadline for the October 2025 series is 16 August 2025.

If you are currently making entries, it is important to include candidates’ dates of birth and indicate if English is their first language, if you want this information on the diagnostic results reports. We cannot add this information later. If you have already submitted your entries, you can still make changes until the entry deadline.

Withdrawals

For the October test series, you can withdraw candidates until 16 August 2025 and receive a credit for the syllabus fee. You can make the withdrawal yourself, using Direct.

Phase 3: Coursework and moderation

Preparing and submitting marks and work for Cambridge Checkpoint Global Perspectives using Submit for Assessment

You must submit internally assessed marks and candidate work and samples for Cambridge Checkpoint Global Perspectives through Submit for Assessment.

Visit the samples database to find out how to submit marks and/or work for every syllabus/component you have made entries for.

As the exams officer, you have access to Submit for Assessment, accessed via My Cambridge, but your teaching colleagues may not. There is more information on our website about creating and managing My Cambridge accounts for colleagues in your centre.

Make sure you share this information again with any teachers in your centre who have previously used the Online Learning Area to submit marks and work.

Phase 5: Exam day

Test dates

The test dates for the October series are 6–17 October 2025.

Running exams

See our resources and administrative forms for running tests on our website.

The
Exam day checklist, under ‘Extra guidance’ helps you check that you are ready for each test.

You must make sure that your scripts have the correct candidate numbers, candidate names and centre numbers. If your candidates need additional answer booklets, you must use our Supplementary Answer Booklet - Exam Day - Form 13, not your centre’s own additional answer booklet. You must complete attendance registers before you send them back to us with your scripts.

Packing and despatching scripts

Send your scripts to us as soon as each test has finished. Follow the instructions in section 5.4 of the Cambridge Handbook. We must receive all your scripts for the May 2024 test series by 4 May 2025.

Phase 6: Results and certificates

May 2025 series

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint results and moderator reports will be available from the ‘My Messages’ section of Direct on 19 June 2025.

October 2025 series

  • Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint Global Perspectives results available to download from Direct: 18 December 2025.
  • Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint diagnostic feedback available to download from Direct: 18 December 2025.
  • End of series reports available to download from the Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary support sites: late December 2025.

November 2024

Phase 6: Results and certificates

Certificates

In March 2025, you should have received certificates for the November 2024 series. Contact us if you have not yet received your certificates. If your centre has any open enquiries about results when we send out certificates, we will send those certificates once we have completed all open enquiries for your centre; this is usually after the enquiry about results deadline.

You can ask for a replacement certificate using Results and Certificates - Form 12 but you will be charged. The fee for this service is in our fees list. We can only replace November 2024 certificates until 30 September 2026.

June 2025

Phase 1: Preparation

Timetable deviations

If you have a timetable clash, you do not need to apply to us to carry out a timetable deviation, but you must follow our regulations in section 1.2.3 of the UK Supplement to the Cambridge Handbook.

Phase 2: Entries

Cambridge Guide to Making Entries

We have made changes to the Cambridge Guide to Making Entries for the June 2025 series. The latest version is v5, which is clearly labelled in Direct. Make sure you download the latest version of the guide from Direct and delete previous versions.

Carry forward of results: Cambridge International AS & A Level Design & Technology (9705) for examination in 2025

Cambridge International AS & A Level Design & Technology (9705) has been revised for first assessment in 2025.

Due to the revision of the qualification, there are some changes to carry-forward options available for assessment in 2025 only. See the 'Carry forward of results' document on the syllabus page for more information.

Statements of entry

Download your statements of entry from the ‘Reports’ tab in Direct. Give them to your candidates, including private candidates, so they can check their entry details.

The name shown on the statement of entry must be the candidate’s legal name. This is also the name the candidate should write on their scripts. We will use it on statements of results and certificates, so it is important to let us know if there are any errors. The centre name will be shown on the statement of entry for private candidates, but not on their certificates.

Alternative venues

If you realise that some of your candidates need to take their timetabled exams at a venue that is not your registered centre, you must complete and return Entries – Form 5 at least four weeks before the day of the exam. You may only use an alternative venue if we have approved it in writing.

Unique Learner Numbers (ULNs)
State schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland need to provide us with a ULN for all candidates entered for Ofqual-regulated qualifications.

If you do not have ULNs for your candidates, register them with the Learner Records Service (LRS). Make sure that candidate details match those you give to us. The LRS will then supply you with the ULNs. Read section 2.3.1.1 of the Cambridge Handbook for more information.

Basedata

The UK Basedata for the June 2025 series is available in the ‘Support Materials’ section of Direct under ‘Estimated and final entry forms’.

Phase 3: Coursework and moderation

Cambridge International AS & A Level Global Perspectives & Research (9239) submission window

The window for submitting work for Cambridge International AS & A Level Global Perspectives & Research (9239/02, 03 & 04) in the June series is 1–31 May 2025.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Information Technology (9626/02, 04)

We are making changes to the way that you submit work for Cambridge International AS & A Level Information Technology (9626/02, 04) through Submit for Assessment from the June 2025 exam series.

  • You must only upload one ZIP file per candidate to the ‘Practical’ (9626/02) or ‘Advanced practical’ (9626/04) learner sections of Submit for Assessment; you cannot upload individual documents.
  • You must upload your Supervisor Report Form as a Word document to the ‘Supervisor Report Form’ section, a new area in Submit for Assessment. After you have uploaded your Supervisor Report Form, you can tick a box to link the form to all candidates in that submission. This means you only need to upload the Supervisor Report Form once per submission.

You must not upload ZIP files and Supervisor Report Forms for 9626/02 and 04 to the Support Materials section of Submit for Assessment.

Submit work for Art & Design using Submit for Assessment

Submit Art & Design work to us for marking using Submit for Assessment.

If we receive any hardcopy work for the following Art & Design syllabuses, we will return it to you unmarked and you must submit the work using Submit for Assessment. This may delay your candidates receiving their results.

  • Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design (0400/01, 02)
  • Cambridge IGCSE (9–1) Art & Design (0989/01, 02)
  • Cambridge O level Art & Design (6090/01, 02, 03)
  • Cambridge International AS & A Level Art & Design (9479/01, 02, 03).

For information about how to prepare and submit work for Art & Design, use our ‘Guidance on the administration and online submission of Art & Design’ available from the School Support Hub and from the specific syllabus information page on our website, along with the Submit for Assessment Administrative Guide.

You can find additional guidance about using Submit for Assessment on our website, including a list of FAQs.

Submitting coursework marks and samples

See our website for more information about submitting coursework marks and samples.

Candidates cannot re-use moderated or examined coursework from a previous exam series, and the work cannot be a reworked version of the work they submitted in a previous exam series.

For any syllabus that has a coursework component or a speaking test, it is important that you or your teaching colleagues know:

  • when and how to submit your candidates’ work
  • which forms need to be submitted
  • how to submit marks for internally assessed components.

The samples database has detailed guidance about how to submit your candidate’s work (either via Submit for Assessment or in hardcopy) and the relevant deadline(s). You can also download the latest version of the forms for each component.

You must authenticate coursework before submitting it to us. If you are not confident that the work submitted by a candidate is their own, you should resolve this internally or not submit the work to us. See sections 3.2.1 and 3.3.1 of the Cambridge Handbook for more information, and our guidance for teachers for preventing plagiarism on our website.

When submitting coursework, you sign a declaration confirming that the work is the candidate’s own original work. This includes confirmation that:

  • the candidate has been taught how to correctly reference
  • they have appropriately referenced and acknowledged any content taken from another source
  • they understand we may consider it malpractice if they submit work containing plagiarised material.

Once you submit coursework to us, we may use plagiarism detection software to screen coursework. Our subject experts will review any coursework we suspect may contain plagiarism. If we find plagiarised work, we may:

  • consider it candidate malpractice
  • not accept the work
  • withhold the candidate’s marks for that component.

We may not request statements from you before closing the malpractice case and deciding the outcome, which we then tell you about.

You must submit coursework for marking or moderation by the relevant deadline.

Your candidates’ results may be delayed if we do not receive your marks and samples by the deadline.

You should contact us if you are unsure whether to submit work or not.

Phase 4: Before the exams

Cambridge IT, Computer Science and ICT practical tests

We provide guidance to support you with running practical exams for Information Technology, Computer Science and/or Information and Communication Technology. You can find the test dates and download the practical test instructions from our website.

Pre-release materials

Check our website to find out how you will receive pre-release materials. It is important you share this information with teachers.

Pre-release materials for Cambridge IGCSE Drama

For Cambridge IGCSE Drama (0411 and (9-1) 0994), we will not send you printed pre-release materials based on estimated entries. You should download the pre-release materials from the School Support Hub and print them.

We send printed clean copies with the question papers for candidates to use in the exam.

Confidential materials

When you receive your confidential despatch, check the contents using our instructions in section 4.3 of the Cambridge Handbook or in our video.

Do not open any question paper packets until the correct time and date of the exam.

If you identify any issues, let us know immediately using the relevant forms. Store confidential materials according to the instructions in section 4.4 of the
Cambridge Handbook. See more information on our 'Handling confidential materials' poster on our Administrative forms and guidance documents page, under ‘Before the exams’.

Where confidential material is pre-recorded on audio files or other media, you must test the material before the exam. Follow the instructions in sections 5.7.2 and 5.7.5 of the
Cambridge Handbook and, if relevant, the Global Listening Administrative Guide. Do not listen to the test materials in full or remove them from your centre – you are only listening to a small section to check for sound quality.

A reminder of our support and guidance

  • Our video shows you how to store the unopened question paper packets securely until the exam date shown on the timetable.
  • Make sure you have read and understood section 4 of the Cambridge Handbook.
  • Contact us if you have questions about your secure storage arrangements
  • Download our ‘Handling confidential materials’ poster from our website.
  • Test any pre-recorded confidential material before the exam – follow the instructions in sections 5.7.2 and 5.7.5 of the Cambridge Handbook. Do not listen to the test materials in full or remove them from your centre – you are only listening to a small section to check for sound quality.
  • Remember our 24-hour security rule – see section 5.3.2 of the Cambridge Handbook.

Remind candidates that we may consider it malpractice if they:

  • remove any question papers or question paper content from the exam room
  • discuss the content of a question paper or other confidential material, such as speaking test topics, with any other candidate until either the Key Time or end of the assessment window has passed.

Receiving question paper despatches

It is extremely important that you telephone us if you do not receive question paper packets you are expecting within two days of the timetabled exam. Do not email us as this could delay our response.

Additional sittings

You can only run additional sittings if we have approved them in writing. To apply for additional sittings send Preparation – Form 8 to info@cambridgeinternational.org with ‘Additional sittings – Compliance’ in the subject line. You must do this at least four weeks before the exam.

Additional exams material list

The additional exams material list is available on our website.

The list includes:

  • additional materials candidates need in each exam
  • exam materials we provide
  • information about whether candidates should answer directly on the question paper, on multiple-choice answer sheets, or on an answer booklet that we provide inserted into the question paper.

Candidates should do rough work on the question paper, or the answer booklet if provided, and cross through it neatly so our examiners can see it. You can provide additional rough paper if there is limited space on the question paper. Candidates should cross this through neatly and you must collect this when you collect their script. You must fasten together all sheets of paper handed in by candidates, see section 5.3.1 (d) of the Cambridge Handbook.

      Phase 5: Exam day

      Running exams

See our resources and administrative forms for running exams on our website.

      Packing and despatching scripts

Pack your scripts by following the instructions in section 5.4 of the Cambridge Handbook. Complete our Script Return Form each time you send a consignment of scripts so we can track them. Find more information on our website.

Send us your scripts as soon as possible after each exam. If we do not receive returned scripts from you quickly, it can cause delays in marking and grading, and therefore results being released on time.

Use a reputable major courier with a tracking facility, and confirm their service is available before sending. Cambridge University Press & Assessment has a relationship with DHL, which is helpful when dealing with queries. Use an express service to return scripts to us. This can help to avoid delays.

      Unused exam materials

When you return your candidate scripts to us, please do not include any unused question papers, answer scripts or continuation booklets. Sending us unnecessary blank items creates extra work and may delay us scanning and marking your candidates' scripts. Only send us question papers if your candidates have written their responses on them.

      Special consideration

See our special consideration page for information about the different types of special consideration.

Candidates entered into the June 2025 series must:

      • have covered the whole course and
      • have completed a minimum of 15 per cent of the total assessment by component weighting in the relevant exam series. Carry-forward marks do not count.

Usually, the minimum requirements for calculating an assessed mark are that the candidate must:

      • have covered the whole course and
      • have completed 50 per cent of the total assessment by component weighting in the relevant exam series. Carry-forward marks do not count.

We cannot produce an A Level result where the candidate has not taken any A2 components. We cannot produce a result where the only component the candidate has taken is a separately endorsed component.

      Malpractice

See section 5.6 of the Cambridge Handbook for more information about reporting suspected malpractice.

You can find reporting suspected candidate malpractice forms 9c and 9d on the ‘Exam Day’ section of our website.

      Phase 6: Results and certificates

      Results release

We will release results for Cambridge International AS & A Level on Tuesday 12 August 2025 at 05:00 UTC+1 and for Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Level on Tuesday 19 August 2025 at 05:00 UTC+1.
